Fear and Loathing with Elvis
36"x48", Acrylic on Canvas (2013)
I started this piece as a live painting during a cover band night at a bar in San Diego called The Office. It was during a celebration of Elvis' birthday, and a Mexican Elvis cover band was banging out the tunes. As I drew Elvis at the top of the canvas, it occurred to me that Hunter S. Thompson may have been in Vegas at the same time as druggie, bloated Elvis. Hmmm..why not combine the two and come up with Fear and Loathing with Elvis! They both indulged in the two things with gusto and even if the timelines weren't completely accurate, it made for a great piece. Throw in some lounge lizards, bats, pills, the Gonzo fist and his law slinging side kick and you're in for a wall melting good time!
